It is not known exactly when it came to Europe. It was probably brought back by sailors as a travel souvenir.

And of course the potato is also very healthy. It contains a small amount of high-quality protein that the body can absorb immediately and carbohydrates that mainly form starch (which is why you have to cook the potato). In addition to potassium, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium, the potato is also gluten-free. A tip for allergy sufferers: swap it for the expensive gluten-free pasta - potatoes taste better and are cheaper.
